Our first-degree full-time Computer Science programme lasts 3 years (VI semesters). Graduates receive a bachelor's degree (licencjat in Polish) after completion of a diploma thesis and a succesfull diploma defence. During the course of study, students can earn a maximum of 183 ECTS credit points (European Credit Transfer System). Starting from the 4-th semester students are required to choose 6 elective courses in addition to the standard programme curriculum.

In the second year, within the framework of a 120-hour internship (in selected IT companies or IT departments of other institutions such as public administration) students learn about the role and goals of IT in a company, the structure and organization of IT units, as well as the rules of teamwork.

One of the main objectives of the programme is to educate qualified graduates who are able to skillfully adjust to the changing needs of the job market. Studying for the first-degree is also the time when students discovers their own predispositions and decide about their academic and professional future. Students may subsequently decide to apply for the master's degree studies and choose their specialization (the second-degree Computer Science programme at University of Bialystok comprises five specializations).

Graduate profile

Graduates of the first-degree programme are expected to be qualified to create and verify components of information technology (IT) systems according to their specification, administer medium-sized IT systems as well use various IT tools in practice. They are expected to know many programming methods (imperative, object-oriented, event-driven, parallel, distributed, low-level), programming environments and technologies (GUI and Internet programming), operating systems, computer networks and database systems to be able to actively participate in the realization of IT projects in accordance with software engineering methodology and the rules of teamwork. They are also expected to have a good theoretical computer science background.

Graduates are expected to find employment as software engineers, programmers, consultants and administrators of IT systems, or network and data security specialists in all sorts of IT companies, IT departments of public administration or local government institutions, as well as to run their own businesses in IT and related fields. Having obtained teacher training, they can also take up the post of a computer science teacher or an IT instructor.

Our graduates can apply for admission to the second-degree Computer Science programme either at University of Bialystok, or other leading national and foreign universities.

Admission rules

Foreign candidates applying for bachelor degree program offered by the University of Bialystok should take the following steps in the recruitment procedure:

1. Register in the System of Online Registration for Studies (IRK, http://www.uwb.edu.pl/rekrutacja.html):

• fill in (enter) only personal data,
• choose field of study,
• pay recruitment fee (PLN 85),
• send scan of:

– secondary school graduation certificate – candidates to first cycle (BA) studies (original document together with apostille and their translation*) or

– higher education diploma (MA, BA or long-cycle) – candidates to second-cycle (MA) studies (original document together with apostille and their translation*)

2. Wait for information on the candidate’s account from the recruitment office on the acceptance or refusal of the submission

3. If accepted, submit personally the following documents to the recruitment office: 

• a personal questionnaire (printed from the IRK System of Online Registration for Studies),
• an application for the issue of Electronic Student ID (printed from the IRK,)
• a foreign language declaration (printed from IRK) – only when a foreign language course is obligatory from the first year of study,
• a secondary school graduation certificate - candidates to first cycle (BA) studies – original document (together with apostille and their translation*) to present during an inspection,
• a higher education diploma (MA, BA or long-cycle) - candidates to second-cycle (MA) studies – original document (together with apostille and their translation*) to present during an inspection,
• an ID (e.g. passport or residence permit) – to present during an inspection,
• copy of document certifying candidate's knowledge of English language at B2 level, with the exception of candidates whose English proficiency has been confirmed during the exam – original document to present during an inspection,
• a health certificate only if specifics of study it requires (the original document together with its translation*) stating that there are no objections to study a selected field of study/specialization,
• copy of document certifying candidate's possession of:

1. health insurance for the period of studies in Poland, or
2. European Health Insurance Card, or
3. general health insurance (Polish National Health Fund—NFZ), or
4. confirmation from the insurer that they would cover medical costs of at least 30 000 EUR

– original document to show during inspection (if the candidate does not have such document he enclosed a declaration of its submission before start of first classes).

• authorisation of candidate’s representative to submit documents in case he cannot do it himself,
• parents or legal guardian permission to study in case of minor candidate.

*Documents should be translated by a Polish sworn translator registered in the  list of sworn translators of the Polish Ministry of Justice, or by:

– a sworn translator registered in any Member State of European Union (EU) or European Free Trade Association (EFTA) – parties to the European Economic Area Agreement, or Member States of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), or

– a Polish consul in the country where the documents were issued, or

– an accredited in Poland embassy or consulate of the country which issued the documents or in which the relevant educational system operates. 

Kandydaci przyjmowani są na pierwszy rok studiów na podstawie wyników części pisemnej egzaminu maturalnego/egzaminu dojrzałości z jednego przedmiotu do wyboru spośród następujących: fizyka, fizyka i astronomia, informatyka, matematyka.

Podstawą rekrutacji jest wynik egzaminu maturalnego z jednego przedmiotu do wyboru spośród następujących : fizyka, fizyka i astronomia, informatyka, matematyka - poziom podstawowy lub rozszerzony.

Kwalifikacja kandydatów posiadających świadectwo dojrzałości uzyskane w systemie nowej matury odbywa się według następujących zasad:

- wartość liczbową wyniku egzaminu maturalnego z wybranego przedmiotu wyrażonego procentowo przyjmuje się za podstawę obliczenia liczby punktów uzyskanych w postępowaniu kwalifikacyjnym (1% = l pkt),

- wynik egzaminu uzyskany na poziomie podstawowym mnożony jest przez współczynnik 0,65,

- wynik egzaminu uzyskany na poziomie rozszerzonym mnożony jest przez współczynnik 1,0.

 - wynik egzaminu kandydata uzyskany na poziomie klas dwujęzycznych mnożony jest przez współczynnik 1,3,

z zastrzeżeniem, że jeśli wynik uzyskany po zastosowaniu współczynnika przekroczy liczbę 100, przyjmuje się, że kandydat uzyskał 100 pkt.

Maksymalna liczba punktów uzyskanych przez kandydata w wyniku postępowania konkursowego wynosi 100 pkt.

Podstawą rekrutacji jest wynik egzaminu dojrzałości z jednego przedmiotu do wyboru spośród następujących : fizyka, fizyka i astronomia, informatyka, matematyka.

Kwalifikacja kandydatów posiadających świadectwo dojrzałości uzyskane w systemie starej matury odbywa się z zachowaniem zasady, że ocena z egzaminu dojrzałości z wybranego przedmiotu przeliczana będzie na punkty w postępowaniu kwalifikacyjnym w następujący sposób:

- w skali 6-stopniowej:

 6,0 - 90 pkt,

 5,0 - 75 pkt,

 4,0 - 55 pkt,

 3,0 - 40 pkt,

 2,0 - 20 pkt,

- w skali 4-stopniowej:

 5,0 - 80 pkt,

 4,0 - 60 pkt,

 3,0 - 40 pkt.

Podstawą rekrutacji jest wynik egzaminu maturalnego z jednego przedmiotu do wyboru spośród następujących : fizyka, fizyka i astronomia, informatyka, matematyka - poziom podstawowy lub rozszerzony.

Kwalifikacja kandydatów posiadających dyplomy EB (European Baccalaureate) wydawane przez Szkoły Europejskie odbywa się według następujących zasad:

- maksymalna liczba punktów możliwych do uzyskania w postępowaniu kwalifikacyjnym na podstawie wyniku egzaminu maturalnego z wybranego przedmiotu zdawanego na poziomie rozszerzonym i zaawansowanym wynosi 100,

- maksymalna liczba punktów możliwych do uzyskania w postępowaniu kwalifikacyjnym na podstawie wyniku egzaminu maturalnego z wybranego przedmiotu zdawanego na poziomie podstawowym wynosi 70,

- oceny (punkty na dyplomie EB) będą przeliczane na punkty w postępowaniu kwalifikacyjnym w następujący sposób:

  a) poziom rozszerzony i zaawansowany:

   (8,0 - 10) - 100 pkt,

   (7,0 - 7,9) - 85 pkt,  

   (6,0 - 6,9) - 70 pkt,

   (5,0 - 5,9) - 55 pkt,

   (4,0 - 4,9) - 40 pkt,

   (3,0 - 3,9) - 25 pkt,

   (1,0 - 2,9) - l0 pkt,

  b) poziom podstawowy:

   (9,0 - 10) – 70 pkt,

   (8,0 - 8,9) – 60 pkt,

   (7,0 - 7,9) – 50 pkt,

   (6,0 - 6,9) – 40 pkt,

   (5,0 - 5,9) – 30 pkt,

   (4,0 - 4,9) – 20 pkt,

   (1,0 - 3,9) – 0 pkt,

Podstawą rekrutacji jest wynik egzaminu maturalnego z jednego przedmiotu do wyboru spośród następujących : fizyka, informatyka, matematyka - poziom niższy (SL) lub poziom wyższy (HL).

Kwalifikacja kandydatów posiadających dyplom IB (lnternational Baccalaureate) uzyskany w ramach programu Matury Międzynarodowej odbywa się według następujących zasad:

- maksymalna liczba punktów możliwych do uzyskania w postępowaniu kwalifikacyjnym na podstawie wyniku egzaminu maturalnego z wybranego przedmiotu zdawanego na poziomie wyższym (HL) wynosi 100,

- maksymalna liczba punktów możliwych do uzyskania w postępowaniu kwalifikacyjnym na podstawie wyniku egzaminu maturalnego z wybranego przedmiotu zdawanego na poziomie niższym (SL) wynosi 65,

- oceny (punkty na dyplomie IB) będą przeliczane na punkty w postępowaniu kwalifikacyjnym w następujący sposób:

  a) poziom rozszerzony (HL):

   7 - 100 pkt,

   6 - 85 pkt,

   5 - 70 pkt,

   4 - 55 pkt,

   3 - 45 pkt,

   2 - 30 pkt,

   1 - l5 pkt,

  b) poziom podstawowy (SL):

   7 - 65 pkt,

   6 - 60 pkt,

   5 - 50 pkt,

   4 - 40 pkt,

   3 - 30 pkt,

   2 – 20 pkt,

   1 – 0 pkt.

- w przypadku matematyki za poziom podstawowy uznaje się 2 i 3 (liczba godzin tygodniowo), za poziom rozszerzony uznaje się 4 i 5, a za poziom zaawansowany 5+3.
